Question to people in the UK with a car...

Postby michelanCello » Sat Oct 13, 2012 10:47 pm

Hi folks!
I have a big favour to ask you! I told you about my friend, who is now working in Scotland (Livingston) till the end of January, but he really would like to come home for a week or so at Christmas time. Only of course flights are reaaallly expensive now (he should've booked like a year or so ago, only he didn't know he'd be going until september... :roll: ), so he'll probably take the bus, or train, or I don't know, I guess he'll figure out something, but I thought I'd ask: is there anyone travelling down South around Christmas time, so that he could join maybe? It probably wouldn't make that much of a difference, but any mile counts...
Or if you have any better ideas, please let me know! :)

Well he could always take the bus, Edinburgh to London costs about £25 in December. It takes 10 hours but it is cheap
One of those? Oh I'm sure I have one somewhere..

Is that with Megabus, Mad? I've used them a lot in the past and they are pretty good. :)
Look, you've got it all wrong! You don't NEED to follow ME, You don't NEED to follow ANYBODY! You've got to think for your selves! You're ALL individuals!
Yes! We're all individuals!

If he uses Easyjet from Edinburgh, there are still seats for about £23-26 each way (plus £9 admin fee) around that time at the moment, depending on the day and time of travel. Rail is more expensive at £88.50 being the cheapest I could see.

The Megabus fare of £25 is one way only, so a return would be £50.
If all is not lost, then where is it?

National Express have a variety of fares for an open return ranging from £56.50 way up to £90.30 with travel times ranging from 8hours 45min all the way up to 11h 50min. The set return tickets seem to be quite a bit cheaper if he picked and chose his departure times accordingly. I've used them myself and much prefer travelling with them rather than take the train. :D

Here is a link for him to check it out for himself;
