I'm tentatively joining the snake admiration society too!
I'm suitably wary of them (and there was that time I almost jumped in to my then ten year old daughter's arms at the sight of one ) but I realise they aren't actually looking for trouble with humans and I can't help but admire their beauty.

I found this "not so" little fellow in front of my neighbours door. I took a bunch of photos, thinking it was dead. I was in my garage for several days before I noticed it's legs were moving. I don't know if it was injured, or old, or whatever, but I put it back outside.

I've been a bit torn about it the last few days. I just hate to think that it was injury. I would not want it to suffer.

The adult dragonfly will not live beyond several months, depending on the quality of the weather. They may live as long as six months provided the weather is dry and warm. However, in the short and sometimes cold weather, adults will not live for longer than several weeks.

Sorry to hear about that Con. My 'mini entomologist' sometimes brings things home in a similar state thinking they are already dead. Then it is difficult to know what to do for the best.
It is a very beautiful dragonfly though. I can never get over how intricate and beautiful they are.

The dragon- and damselflies are getting rarer and rarer,the cold is now seriously creeping in it seems, shortly it will be spring before we get to see them again.

We get very long blue stripy dragonflies here sometimes.I once saw one that was about twenty centimetres,give or take,flying at a pond,the girls were rather scared as it seemed to be very interested in us and kept whirring around our heads.We were rather glad it finallly pushed of.Since then the girls are rather wary of dragonflies.
