I saw an otter this morning in the sea while waiting for the ferry to leave. By the time I realised what it was and mentioned it to the others it had ducked back under the water so no time to get my phone out for a pic

I was thrilled when I saw an otter in Shetland.

And people think they are hard to spot! Well, I guess they are really, but you can often see them at the ferry terminals.

Found this little chap sleeping on the landing windowsill this morning with his head tucked under his wing! By the time we got the camera out he was awake. I'm no bird expert but we think it's a gold crest. It is tiny! I know they are pretty common on the UK mainland but don't think they live up here. We think it's probably a migrant from Scandinavia.

It's the smallest British bird. And yes, definitely a goldcrest.
