Question to people in the UK with a car...

Hi folks!
I have a big favour to ask you! I told you about my friend, who is now working in Scotland (Livingston) till the end of January, but he really would like to come home for a week or so at Christmas time. Only of course flights are reaaallly expensive now (he should've booked like a year or so ago, only he didn't know he'd be going until september... ), so he'll probably take the bus, or train, or I don't know, I guess he'll figure out something, but I thought I'd ask: is there anyone travelling down South around Christmas time, so that he could join maybe? It probably wouldn't make that much of a difference, but any mile counts...
Or if you have any better ideas, please let me know!

Well he could always take the bus, Edinburgh to London costs about £25 in December. It takes 10 hours but it is cheap

Is that with Megabus, Mad? I've used them a lot in the past and they are pretty good.

If he uses Easyjet from Edinburgh, there are still seats for about £23-26 each way (plus £9 admin fee) around that time at the moment, depending on the day and time of travel. Rail is more expensive at £88.50 being the cheapest I could see.

The Megabus fare of £25 is one way only, so a return would be £50.

National Express have a variety of fares for an open return ranging from £56.50 way up to £90.30 with travel times ranging from 8hours 45min all the way up to 11h 50min. The set return tickets seem to be quite a bit cheaper if he picked and chose his departure times accordingly. I've used them myself and much prefer travelling with them rather than take the train.
