Well, OK, this made me smile yesterday, but I just haven't had enough life to post much lately.

Had lunch with someone who's advising me on my role yesterday and we finished with a conversation on the delights of Discworld and me advising her on which TP book(s) she should start with.

I remember a young woman on a flight from California who noticed my Assassins Guide badge on my bag. We got into a conversation about Terry as she had heard but not read him. It turned out that she was a journalist, so I recommended The Truth.

Trouble is, they both suffer from the same affliction as me - as soon as my head's in a book, I hear nothing else around me. The apocalypse could happen and I wouldn't know.

So now Karen is walking round trying to get a response from 3 people who are completely 'book deaf'

My mum could tell you stories... My book-deafness almost drove her mad when I was a kid.

That's great, Chilli, but you've now got to be careful not to interrogate them in case you freak them out and frighten them off.

Kids can't win really. We adults want them to read, but when they are so absorbed that they have book deafness, we adults complain. Elder Toothlet had computer game deafness until she decided to wean herself off World of Warcraft recently -thank goodness!!
