Is this something to do with Winnie the Pooh?

There was a bear cub named Winnie, short for Winniepeg that was adopted by a group of Canadian soldiers who brought it with them to Salsibury Plain at the start of WW1. The bear ended up in London Zoo and was much loved by many people including A.A. Milne and his son Christopher Robin. When Christopher Robin was given a toy bear, he named it after the Canadian bear and added "Pooh" after a pet swan they had (named Pooh). I'm pretty sure A.A. Milne lived in Sussex.

Very quick and almost spot on Tony , The Milnes didn't live in Poling but holidayed there and the swan lived on the pond near their holiday cottage so it wasn't a pet and wasn't actually called Pooh except by Christopher Robin, you are dead right about the bear though. Christopher Robin's teddy was known as Edward Bear for many years but eventually was renamed Winnie the Pooh after both those animals. This is why he isn't called Winnie in the first book (When We Were Very Young) as he hadn't had his name changed by then.

I found this website from White River, Ontario, where the original Winnie was purchased. It's a fascinating story and one I wasn't aware of.

It is interesting isn't it. There is even a photograph of Christopher Robin Milne in the pen with Winnie, I was initially tempted to just post the picture and ask people to name them both

Last invasion of Britain in 1797. (Credit goes to one of my very Welsh drivers who told me the English name after he stopped laughing after I tried to pronounce the name).

Yep! It was The Battle of Fishguard, an attempt along with the Irish of invading Britain and starting a Celtic uprising. I've seen the spot where they actually landed and I'm amazed they weren't all killed on the rocks.

Ok, I'm fairly sure I know this, although I haven't been able to confirm the Zingiber (the botanical name for ginger).

Is the fifth on Robert Falcon Scott and they failed to be the first to the South Pole?

Scott seems to have had a ton of nicknames including: The Boss, Con, Old Mooney, The Owner, Ignotus, Juxta and Truegg.
