I've heard hundreds of thousands of girls in India are subjected to the same thing. They believe it's part of the male genitalia, so they remove it.

My old Anthropology lecturer from Darfur said it was extremely hard to counteract in Africa becuase if you spoke out you were being pro west or anti tradition . So no one did. Then again he was a terrorist so we'll take what he says with a pinch of salt

A breakaway group of 16 Amish men and women have been convicted of federal hate crimes in five home-intrusion attacks on other Amish who, the group believed, had "strayed" from Amish beliefs.

The religious attacks in rural eastern Ohio were considered a hate crime because the assaults were intended to shame the victims by cutting off their hair and beards -- hair "carries spiritual significance" to the Amish, said federal prosecutors.

Sixteen members of the breakaway group, which includes six couples who have a total of "about 50" children, face up to 10 years in prison. Their group's spiritual leader, who didn't actually participate in the attacks, was also convicted because, prosecutors showed, he planned and encouraged the attacks.

His name: Samuel Mullet Sr., 66.

But it does and it's in the title of the article - Sisters in custody battle sent home. They were all born in Italy and the Australian mother had agreed to joint custody in Italy with their Italian father - it may not be working for her now but breaking the law never helps with getting a court order revised or rescinded if a situation changes.
