You know that sunset I posted the other day? Well I posted it on Weather Underground, an International weat
her site with photo galleries. I just got notification that it has been chosen for their World View Gallery, which is a pick of the top photos of the week. That really came as a surprise.

Wonderful Mad. I can never take pics of fireworks. We have Riverfire here on Saturday night. Bigger than New Years eve. And the City Of Lights show... lasers on the river and on the city buildings. Massive. So excited. Exarse is letting me pick H up and take her in as its his weekend and then week for holidays with her. Going to be a rush... get off work, get home ten mins to.change and rush over to get her then get to a bus or train to get into the city. Tens of thousands turn up for it. They close down the freeway to the city so can't take the car. Wouldn't be any parking anyway...

Thanks everyone, they are hand held 3 to 5 second exposures using a 70mm lens with me braced against a wall to reduce camera shake. I've taken pictures of fireworks for many years but not tried this before but the effects are pretty good. It means I get the trail of the rocket climbing through the sky and the resultant explosion all in one shot or in some cases massive red over-exposure of the picture which is equally dramatic.

Something to show that the critters we get here aren't all like the slithery snake I've just posted in another thread. This little bird is an Eastern Spinebill Acanthorhynchus tenuirostris.
