Tony, I couldn't understand what you were describing this morning--but by golly they do disappear. Penners, do you have any explanation. It looks as if the building is empty--is it being torn down? Maybe the Google crew photographed on different days?

Penners, I like all the pictures, but the rat is definitely the weakest one (at least for me). Part of it is that I just don't like rats even when they're eating daisies (I think). But the picture doesn't pull me in like your other color photos. It's just too simple and doesn't really display your skill I think. My favorite is the 2nd one--and Deceptive is definitely the word for these reflective portraits. And I love the fact that I keep finding more and more different reflections--and am never sure whether something is really there or is a distorted reflection. And the use of people in the picture (or reflexions of people) really adds to the picture. While I admire the 3rd picture, and I'm sure that it shows a great deal of technical expertise (and patience waiting for the stairs to be clear), my first reaction was "This picture makes me dizzy." Some of that is the shape of the building, and the walkway. Does it indicate that the city council for London is "going in circles"? But this picture doesn't draw me into the photo in the way the 2nd one does. I can admire it--but I don't go into it. Now whether that's what the judges are looking for you'll have a better idea than I will. Did you get the squirrel picture done? I'd really like to see something else to consider rather than the rat picture. But, very impressive!

Thank you all. In light of the comments, I think I will hold back on the rat photo until such a time as I need to put one in to make up the numbers, so to speak. Instead, I will enter one of these two which were going to be used at a later date. I think these are more aesthetically pleasing although not as difficult (or technical) as the rat to take. This is not necessarily a bad thing since many judges base their overall marking on their initial reaction to a photo. Any more advice, comments, or criticisms are more than welcome. Either way, please suggest titles for these two.

The photos have been entered with titles duly attached (I have edited the posts they first appear). Thank you once again for your valuable input and comments, they really do help in my decision making. The competition is next Tuesday so I will let you know how I got on next week.

I just got back from my first projected image competition in the advanced category and I am happy to announce that the result was not a disaster. I didn't win, although the judge and everyone else really liked the City Hall photo (the way the judge was enthusing about it I thought I was onto a winner).

My scores out of 20 were;

Rise to the Corridors of Power (London City Hall): 19
Who pinched my nuts (Squirrel): 19
A Deceptive Perspective: 17

This gives me a total of 55/60. There are two more merit competitions to come during the year with the highest total of all nine pictures winning the trophy. Hopefully I can continue to get consistent scores and be there or thereabouts at the end.
