It needn't be fishy. It might be that they were too afraid to speak out for a time until someone complained. Once someone complains, then that may give incentive for other victims to do so.

Anyway...

Not only a nurse, they were little girls when this happened. Where were the parents? Life was different 30 years ago.I remember being taken to the dentist as a kid & walking from the waiting room to the clinical room. Longest walk of my life. I don't think for one minute my mum thought to come in with me.

I think mine did, up to a certain age, but it's all a tad fuzzy these days!

A robbery victim returning home after a drunken night on the town fell down on the tracks at subway station south of Stockholm. He was knocked unconscious when his head hit the tracks.

A bystander who witnessed the accident jumped down after him - but not for a daring rescue before the train arrived. Instead, the witness steals the man's valuables, climbs back on the platform and leaves his victim to be hit by a train.

The man - who was on his way home from a party - survived, but was seriously injured and doctors had to amputate half his left foot.

Swedish police now hope that surveillance camera footage of the disturbing incident will help them find and arrest the thief.

"To me it's incredible that one could steal or rob from somebody who is lying in such a place where you know that, if I don't do something, then this person will, in a worst-case scenario, get killed by the train that is coming. Because the train is going to come," police inspector Dan Ostman said.

He calmly walked out of the subway station, waving to the ticket vendor, as a train ran over the victim on the tracks below.

I know you're being facetious, Bouncy, but that was my honest reaction to what happened. Just when I thought that there were still a few depths humanity had not plumbed, something like this happens.

His valuables & half his left foot? He got off lightly.

I'm not surprised. I'd be surprised if anyone was.

That's horrible.
I'm glad the guy on the track survived.

Odd thing, the human brain. We see such an awful thing in real life and know it is terrible, the depths of depravity, and we are shocked and appalled. But we read about the same kinds of things happening in Ankh Morpork and it's all part of the rich and sordid character of the place. We watch murder programmes on TV all the time, and gun fights and chases on film with people falling down ad infinitum: we even make body counts as the films progress, but it means nothing. Simply entertainment.

I wonder what the psychologists make of it? I'm a Quaker for goodness' sake, and I watch the murder movies. Go figure.
