Went into a card shop in the next village today, which was a bit odd as these places often are, and the owner started chatting to me about how she can't find a book to read next. Then she said that a new book had knocked 50 shades off the top spot, with the comment "I can't believe it's selling better than 50 shades". A feeling of cold dread.... run away! Too late :( She insisted on telling me what a lovely romantic story it is, and how you grow so attached to the characters. I'd already paid! I was under no obligation to listen to this, other than that imposed by good manners! "Have you read it yet?" DEAR GOD NO! "No, I've not got round to it yet." "Well I just love stories about vampires and werewolves!!!" "OKthanksforthecardbyethen"

I feel like it's some wierd cult, and everywhere I go strange crazy-eyed women are asking me if I've experienced the joy of Anna & Christian (this I got from card shop lady).

You should have recommended The Fifth Elephant if she likes vampires and werewolves.

I know what you mean. The friend who told me it was unreadable, went back and finished it - and read the next two books. She then tries to tell me that while the first two books are bad, the next two are really good - in spite of the bad writing. :? And, yes, she had that glazed look in her eyes.

I'm seeing my mate in London later today. It's his 50th Birthday and his surname is Gray so I decided to give him a certain book as a present (probably along with everyone else).

There are doing an interview with the "author" on Classic FM tomorrow. I think I'll give that one a miss.

Interviewer: What do you say to people who claim the book is very poorly written.

That's because you're not local and you covert the precious things of the shop.

I forgot to say the present was well received (sort off) and later provided a source of entertainment where people would open it to a random page trying to find one that was free of poorly written soft porn. We failed.
