Has anyone player any of the Discworld Boardgames?

Postby HobbitFeets » Fri Sep 14, 2012 11:26 am

Hi all

Don't know whether this thread has already been started, so i'll apologise now. Has anyone played any of the Discworld boardgames? I have Thud and played it a few times with friends, but has anyone played the others (I may be eager to buy them you see    )?

Cheers all

No. I don't imagine anyone west of Bree would have much interest in "adventures."

I don't like boardgames much myself, but I know several people here have played the games and enjoyed them.

I have played Ankh-Morpork the board game (one time only though) and thought it was very good. ;)

I've had the Ankh-Morpork game for about 10 months now, but haven't played it yet :)

Thud - got it years ago, and have learned the basics but not played very often, and would in no way consider myself much of a strategist.

Ankh-Morpork - bought it on release last year and have played a handful of times. It is very easy to learn, good fun and a great way to use up a few hours. After a few plays you can work on a bit more strategy but it's not necessary to strategise to win.

Guards! Guards! - also bought it on release last year, have played it 2.5 times, with one of those games lasting well over four hours. It is quite a complex game to learn, lots and lots of rules, but hopefully the 2012 reprint (and new rulebook) will make some of them clearer. Once you do get started, it is quite fun to play, but the complexity level is something I wouldn't recommend to anyone who wants a quick casual game - if you enjoy long and complex board games (e.g Risk-style, or many other great geeky ones my friends have occasionally tried to force on me), then it's worth giving it a shot. Just don't panic too much if you forget some of the rules, because everyone always will :)

I bought guards guards at the con. Played it once there and once since. Yes its quite complex but there is a nice mixture of luck and strategy so perfect for me

I was lucky enough to play test them a couple of years back and Guards! Guards! was easily my favourite as I play a lot of games of that complexity and duration. Played a few times since and the games have always been close and enjoyable.
Ankh-Morpork is good too but more for your Risk fan (can't stand the game).

I've just got the witches board game (collectors edition of course), but not sure if I even want to open it, never mind play it!
But have heard good things about the other games of Discworld.

I've got the Ankh-Morpork game, played it once with my sisters. We very much enjoyed it, good game mechanics and fun to boot. I don't like Risk either, but no objections to this game.

Haven't seen/played the Witches game, but from what I've read it's a bit... boring and predictable. It looks great though - keeping the collector's edition unopened might be a very good idea.

I was wondering about getting the Witches game as it does look very good. Shame the reviews say it's boring and predictable. Anyone actually played it?

Light family fun. That's sort of what I'm looking for :)

I bought and played the game with my daughter and also on my own. The Witches is a good board game, looks attractive and is not too long or too short.
