PC Virus/Malware/??

I'm still having a problem with that virus thing. It seems to create a "link" with a random word, which looks like an ad. Norton, CCleaner and the 9 hours scan from ESET were not able to fix the problem. I would welcome some suggestions.
I'm currently on hold with Norton support....

Have you tried Malwarebytes? I've found it to be better at identifying and getting rid of malware and worms than regular commercial virus checkers. And it's free.

For some reason, Malwarebyte had an icon in my browser. I deleted it, because I did not know if it was "malware" 'cause did not put it there.

In the above posts both the words "Norton" and "getting" have become "links" for me.

OK, all the major anti virus companies offer a free scan of your PC, I suggest trying most of them as different ones find different things. Also definitely install malwarebyte and spybot and run them, you can get legitimate copies of both from majorgeeks as you may have had dodgy fake versions installed by your virus attack.

Majorgeeks has several other tools that are very useful. I've used this site for years a lot of what is there you hope to never need but it's worth knowing it's out there.

The nice people at Norton want $99 to help me fix the problem; riiiight. I asked them I spent $110 and my PC got infected. I have been so happy with them the past 4-5 years. I think just said this week that I have never had a problem since I installed it; 'guess that's what I get?

Malwarebytes found problems, but did not fix the issue. I'll check your links...

Although Norton won’t like it but it does not like anything that’s better than it is, heap of shit I would not give it house room.
You might have to temporally disable noton to download some of them.

I'm actually doing a full scan with Norton right now. I'll see if it can "surprise" me.

Man, this thing is really tough to get rid of. The only thing I have not tried yet is ad-aware because I have to uninstall Norton, because I can't just disable it.

I have a feeling that the malware now looks like it's supposed to be part of the browser, so the cleaners can not see it. Someone did a heck of a good job.

I'm wondering if uninstalling Firefox and reinstalling it would help?

What exactly are the problems that this is causing, Con?

I had a thingy on my computer here at work that tried to make my default browser some new one I'd never heard of. The lad upstairs managed to delete it whilst I was away last week, but said it had burrowed it's way in and was hard to find and get rid of.

We use Superantispyware, and it finds a heck of a lot of stuff that other programmes seem to miss.

It makes certain words in my browser look like links; like the word "word" in my first post. The words are underlined, like a link. If I hover over them, it pops up an ad, like this:

Is Ad-Aware a program which I am supposed to be able to launch? I installed it, but I can not launch it and I can not reinstall it. Does the free version not work that way?

2. Restart Firefox, and navigate to Tools -> Add-ons (Ctrl+Shift+A).

3. Select Extensions and find the Text Enhance extension, and click disable and remove the unwanted/unknown extensions.

How to block the Text Enhance cookie

1.From the Tools menu, select Options
2.In the upper section of the Options window, click Privacy
3.In the Cookies tab, click Exceptions
4. In the new Exceptions – Cookies window, enter Text-Enhance.com and Textsrv.com in the Address of Website field and click Disable.



That should do it.

Then I suggest you install and run SuperAntiSpyware, as it really does seem to pick up on lots of stuff that other programmes seem to miss.
