I have to say - all joking aside, that these seem to be a bit fad creating. People who already have a Kindle are now going to want to be seen with the latest model and wouldn't be seen dead with the original.

That's ok - people can spend their money on whatever they want, but obviously, the manufacturers don't want everyone to keep their original one, so they'll keep adding little tweaks to make people want to ditch their perfectly good model for a new one. It wouldn't do if everyone was happy with the model they had - the company would go bust in next to no time.

I dunno, it feels like "Since everyone in the world doesn't own a Kindle, we need to add bells and whistles until we have complete world domination". The final incarnation will probably shop for you while you sleep, and only stop when you reach your overdraft limit.

No tony I think you may be right.. I've got one of the earlier ones the 3, I'm happy with it and read on average 4-5 books a week. All are backed up on the Mac, so i delete them from the kindle as i finish them. We got Becks the Kindle 4 and I dont think its as good. And now the fire, basically just a small tablet. Its got lost against all of the other tablets now.
Wont change but might go play with one in Waterstones next month. Got an Ipad and its useless as a reader. Think the fire will be the same...
And as to the autograph on the kindle, why not think it would make a great cover. Especially if was dun for charity.
My 2p as usual. :D

I have the Kindle 4 and find it easy on the eyes to read. The only problem comes when you want to read at night in a dull room. Amazon have now fixed that with the new Kindle Paperwhite. If people update to the new one for the sake of it they suffer from the iApple marketing syndrome. But as always, each to their own right?

To be honest, I dont see non e-Ink screened Kindles (ie. Fire) as directed towards reading. Backlit screens (IPS/retina or otherwise) just don't cut it for reading. I have tried on a 9.7 inch IPS screened Android tablet, and the new iPad with the retina screen.
