I don't have a picture, but I had to perform a little "rescue" mission yesterday morning. I was driving back from the grocery store and saw a brown squirrel at the corner of my street and the one I was on. It did not move when I drove past it, but was clearly alive.
I got to the house (about 200 metres away), brought the groceries in and went looking for a box and a pair of gloves. I found them pretty fast and ran back to the squirrel. It took a little coaxing, but I managed to get it into the box and close the lid.
We brought to the after hours emergency animal clinic. The girl there said they would heal it and let recover as long as needed. Then it would be released, either by itself, or with other squirrels, if they had others and if it had integrated with them.
When I picked it up, there was a little bit of blood on the ground and I could see that the skin on the back of it's right paw looked as if it was gone. It's hard to say what happened to it. I would guess that if it was hit by a car, it would have been more severely injured. Maybe it was just grazed by a car tire?
I'll call there today, to see how it's doing.
The greatest things in life are not things.
