Any fellow Gout sufferers on here?

Postby Cohen » Tue Aug 14, 2012 4:06 pm

As you can guess by the heading 'I have gout', along with several other health problems. In fact the real Cohen is probably in better shape than I am

So, please post if you also have gout.

I don't. But I heard colchicin (the poison of the colchicum flowers aka autumn crocus) is good against gout. You should ask a physician. DON'T just go and pluck some for self medication. The poison is lethal when you get the dosage wrong. There are also a homeopathic preparations you can get without a prescription but I don't recommend them.

I've not tried Colchicin yet as I am managing to take Indometicin with Omeperzole, due to acid reflux/dyspepsia problems, and this seems to help. Have just started taking Allopurinol. Don't really want to take more med's but I guess it should help. I have tried lowering my purine intake, drinking at least two litres of water per day, cutting out coffee, alcohol, chocolate, drinking less tea, taking cherry capsules etcetera. Don't think any of it works

I've never really understood why gout is often treated as some sort of joke. I haven't suffered from it, but my brother in law did and it was very painful. I blame old cartoons where you had some old military type with his foot bandaged and a red nose from drinking too much. :?

had an attack of it a few months ago, very unfunny. Cherries and cherry juice helps. My mother suffers as well and swears by them. Bump up your water intake a bit more try for 3l a day

A Google image search of 'gout' is not a pretty sight. :?

I have learned never to google medical terms.
Using Wikipedia is safer, even though there are some unpleasant things on there as well. But you don't get a whole screen full of them.

Some are born great, some achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon them.

The rest of us are a bit crap.

I probably drink around three litres a day BobtheDrog, that's if you include several cups of decaffeinated tea and a soluble 1000mg vitamin C drink. Read that this can lower urate levels over time.

I have tried the CherryActive capsules and cherry juice. Didn't find that it helped much, though I probably didn't take it for long enough.
