Happy Birthday Chris ((((hugs))))

Hope you have a good day (having now recovered from your pre-celebration adventures in beer at the weekend)

1754 - William Bligh, nasty ship's captain (HMS Bounty) Nooooooooooo! This guy gets such a bad press it's untrue. He was an admirer of and served with Cook and the man was a genius at navigation. If not for him the non-mutineering crew would all have perished at sea. Yes he was a stern captain, but no better or worse than many others during this period. Fletcher Christian and his followers caused havoc on that island, that Bligh did his best to prevent, but they spread STDs and took outrageous advantage of the people there. Christian was posh spoiled upper class twit in essence

I am slightly biased I admit :P I literally live just around the corner from where his family owned land and built a modest manor house there in the 16/1700s.

I agree about Bligh and was glad to see that the movie, Bounty with Anthony Hopkins and some Australian bloke, didn't paint him as a moster as some telling of the story do. :D
