Authors are dropping like flies at the moment.
Some are born great, some achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon them.

The rest of us are a bit crap.

The difference between fiction and reality? Fiction has to make sense.

What a great loss. I discovered Gore Vidal as a teen watching an interview with him on TV and became a fan. Can't say I agree with everything he wrote but loved his attitude, loved his forthright talk back in an age when people were tentative to talk straight on American television.

"All children alarm their parents, if only because you are forever expecting to encounter yourself."

"We should stop going around babbling about how we're the greatest democracy on earth, when we're not even a democracy. We are a sort of militarised republic."

"Think of the earth as a living organism that is being attacked by billions of bacteria whose numbers double every forty years. Either the host dies, or the virus dies, or both die."

Another monumentally talented writer has been visited by Death. Anyone's guess as to who came up with the best oneliner.
Here's a few to be going on with...........
