When we moved to the city we brought our brothers dog with us. (By then Dads dog) "Bull". SO Dad fenced off half the back yard with a run into his "kennel"

Half the under of the house where he could sit under the enclosed winding back stairs that was open to hear and see the open kitchen/living room upstairs where the large family congregated. Without fail when anyone walked into the room he would take off along his run and into the stair area (couldnt get ON the stairs... never had dogs IN the main house) and everyone would kiss mum and dad hello and go say hi to Bull throw him a piece of fruit... we had a huge store of our fruit out in the the colder part of the staircase just outside the kitchen and we would grab fruit as we ran up or down it to go play.
When Dad fenced off the back part of the big garden he also fenced off part of the orchard growing there and when the mandarins and oranges came into season Mum would go down to get some and find loads of orange peels under the trees. She blamed us for not picking up the skins and putting them in the bin. One day we noticed Bull sitting there with a VERY full mouth looking totally innocent. Until he spat out an orange.... Bull would get a run up and LEAP into the air to pluck an orange off the tree (never plucked an orange until it was JUST ripe either

) As he plucked more of the lower oranges he would study the run and devise runs where he could bound off the top of his outdoor kennel or bounce off the fence to get higher at the fruit. We used to watch him and he would carefully peel the orange with his teeth, separate the segments and eat each piece delicately.

Just keep swimming... just keep swimming.. just keep swimming....
