Ah TShirt related fun.
Yesterday I made the mistake of not thinking about what i was going to wear and just grabbing what was handy.
We were going to the Births and Deaths office in Dublin to register Harry and get his Birth certificate and i wore my Darth Vader tshirt with the slogan Who's Your Daddy .
Got a lot of very starange looks especially from the single mothers

Nice collection of proofs there Pooh, but what made you want to collect them instead of the 1st editions.

Six reasons.

a) They're rare. They're rarer than the Colour of Magic 1st (506 copies). Usually there are only approx 120 printed of each one.

b) They're more expensive. Paying 20 quid for a first edition then another 25 quid to get it shipped to Japan is not cost effective. Paying 100 quid for a proof, then 15 quid to get it shipped is cost effective.

c) They're relatively cheap. Five years ago the pound was worth 250 yen. Now it's worth 125 yen. So buying stuff in pounds is relatively cheap for me.

d) They're fun to collect. Trying to locate them and get them for a reasonable price is fun. I've been collecting for three years now, and there are still some I've never seen anywhere. There have also been four I've seen, but the price was too high so I didn't buy.

e) They contain mistakes and bits which aren't in the first edition. It's fun finding these mistakes.

f) They're an investment for my kids. How much would a complete set of Terry Pratchett proofs be worth in 10 years? A lot of them are signed and dedicated.

F) I know in the States that if a book has a deicated name in it name on it, it normally sells for less I know that because an American author offered to just sign it as he said it would be worth more than with my name in it ,but I got it dedicated anyway. But they will be valuable anyway I have a few myself which in years to come might fund a Con or two.

b) But if I buy a 1st edition for 20 quid, pay another 25 quid to get it shipped to japan, then try to sell it again, I'd have to sell it for 45 quid to break even. Bearing in mind there's a 25 quid postage to be added, who's going to pay 70 quid to get a first edition when there are so many of them around a lot cheaper?

f) I'm talking about a dedicated name PLUS (and this is the good bit) also a comment added by TP.
He stopped doing dedications and comments in 2009 (I believe).
In the proofs I have, he's also written the following;

"The proof of the pudding" (Thud)
"Live in interesting times" (IT)
"Superior felicitations" (Sourcery)
"All the best" (WS)
"We made the Devil do it" (plus "333")(Good Omens)
"May your camels be multiplied" (Pyramids)
"All the best" (GG)

And last but not least, the Nation proof he signed and dedicated to my two peskies one year AFTER he'd stopped doing dedications.
It might possibly be the last dedication he ever wrote (the writing is NOT good), and comes with a signed letter from TP himself saying it's one of only 120.

Why would you want to sell it. all mine have dedications and comments in them until they stopped.
