I was wondering what musical instruments are specifically mentioned in the novels. I get the feeling of a kind of baroque / medieval / celtic kind of thing when I think about it. But what instruments are actually mentioned?
I'm just getting started on the journey through the Discworld novels. I've just finished "Guards, Guards!". So members of this forum are likely to know more than I about this...
Soul Music is the one where specific instruments are mentioned. Buddy (Imp y Celyn) plays a sort of hand held harp before he finds his guitar in the phantom music shoppe. Glod, the dwarf plays a type of horn, which I seem to remember is refered to as a Crumm Horn and the troll bangs various sized rocks together. Pianos are mentioned as are banjos (Nanny Ogg). And of course, various places inculding the university and the opera house have bellows-driven organs.

Didn't he also have a guitar? and they mentioned a bass (i think) in maskerade. in feet of clay vimes thought the ammo for the gonne looked like a type of pipes. and bagpipes are mentioned (well, mousepipes, but you can infer the existence of the regular kind.)
The bard in The Last Hero has a lute of some description...
And I seem to recall that when there was a riot in Ankh-Morpork (probably during Soul Music) people were stealing stuff from a music shop. Luters, I expect.

In Maskerade, there's mention of a yellow clarinet in the orchestra being bad luck. Also mentioned: a piano, a tuba, oboes, violins,a trombone, a double bass, a triangle, a harmoniuma piccolo, a cymbal, and a drum.
In Pyramids Ptraci says, 'If you know where there is a dulcimer I could play you something soothing, I've got as far as 'Goblins Picnic' in Book 1.' (Ptraci is giving Teppic a neck massage at the time)
