Yes. I didn't know you were familiar with
Doctor Who. Or the Master. But yes, the Master, in the novels written before the new series began, is called Koschei before he became evil. He appears as Koschei in
The Dark Path and flashback scenes in Gary Russel's
Divided Loyalties, as well as a parallel version of Koschei still in the service of the Time Lords appearing in David A McIntee's
The Face of the Enemy. In that book, they also mention the real names of other Time Lord enemies of the Doctor, like Magnus (the War Chief from
The War Games), Ushas (the Rani), and Mortimus (the Meddling Monk, although he was actually named Mortimus earlier, in the New Adventures novel
No Future). This was when they were still at school together, along with Drax and 'Theta Sigma', aka the Doctor.
