You know, i've never seen a full episode of the show. i've been thinking about it but never knew where to start (and it doesn't help that A) the whole thing is over 700 eps, and B) alot of the early ones don't exist anymore). any suggestions?

Actually, leaving aside missing stories, I think that there are only maybe four stories that I haven't watched. I know I haven't watched The Reign of Terror (okay, so that has two episodes of six missing, but it's being released on DVD with animated episodes soon), Planet of Giants, and The Doctor, The Widow, and The Wardrobe, and maybe Nightmare of Eden.

Of episodes available from missing stories that I haven't watched, I haven't watched Galaxy 4: Airlock and The Underwater Menace episode 2 (for obvious reasons, as they were only discovered recently), The Faceless Ones episodes 1 and 3, and The Web of Fear episode 1.

I'm no purist so I'd just jump in wherever you fancy, unless you are a fan of 'vintage' TV. My twelve year old has enjoyed the last couple of seasons, so last Christmas we thought we'd give her a DVD of the Dr Who we grew up with (Fourth Doctor - Tom Baker) Seeing her watching it made me feel like we'd kicked a kitten. For some reason she couldn't get past the papier-mâché sets or see K-9 as anything other than a metal box on wheels

Yep. Mine too. The adult one loves b grade 50's horror so loves vintage who. The teen and the child don't even see it as Dr who. Dr who is more real than that. I guess our kids have more sophisticated tastes these days and expect more. Let's face it... H has a toy dog that is more responsive than K9

I have a relative who is young and has enjoyed the novelisations of the series that I have given to her as gifts. Her favourite, at the moment, is Inferno, a Jon Pertwee story. I am strongly considering getting her a DVD from the classic series for her birthday, I'm just not sure which. Probably Pyramids of Mars.

I agree. That's where I started and I'm waiting for the latest season to hit Netflix here. Although, I don't have any interest in going back further. It was a bit of an acquired taste thing, even starting out with the 9th Doctor.

Well, I have news for you. Or rather, trailers from some of the better stories, done for DVD...

I'm doing it in chronological order of story here, so this one has the earliest story, The Tomb of the Cybermen, along with The Three Doctors and The Robots of Death...
