Sorry my mistake, the last two are of a different rat (part of the rat's ear is missing on the first three) which also came out to play.
They really are cute but I was hoping to get one or two water voles instead. He was very wild to tell the truth but as I had been standing very still next to a tree, waiting to photograph an entirely different subject, he didn't seem to notice me. I watched him go into the water from the opposite bank and he came out about ten feet in front of me. He soon ran away when someone else walked by. The second rat was a little less alert and ran almost up to my feet before realizing I was there but he actually got to close for my lens to focus properly.
The difference between fiction and reality? Fiction has to make sense.
