We had a big, fat, black jumping spider in the house last week. I tried to get a picture of it, but they came out blurry.

Funny that.

Interesting, Mickey was made between 1931 and 1936 which the catalogue he would have looked it up in would have told him so he estimated the final year of production, however he has a red ear tag which wasn't used after 1934. he could have said any of 6 years but chose one of the two it couldn't be Estimates about right though

I do estimates and insurance appraisals for old bears and associated critters in the shop and we have been known to get a call from the UK Antiques Roadshow to check a fact before they record a piece to camera

Well they can only take a limited number of reference works with them to a recording so if they need something they haven't got they call specialist dealers who will have the reference works to hand or may just know the answer anyway

The programme doesn't work the way it appears to. If something interesting comes to an appraisers table then they will call the producer and if they agree that it would make good TV then the person is taken away with their object and brought back later. In the meantime the filming schedule is agreed and the expert quickly reads up, or calls somebody else, if they need to so they can be as accurate as possible, remember some of the experts have really wide subjects to cover they cannot know all the dates and little facts. The member of the public is then brought back when the cameras are in position and they do the bit you see in the programme. If you are ever at a recording and you see the expert straight away when you get to them then you aren't going to be on the show.
