I knew most of these, but then I am an aficionado of dumblaws.com - I even used the website in a cover RE lesson with 10/11 year olds on the subject of religious laws/rules, to illustrate that some laws/rules over time lose their meaning and usefulness and are just adhered to because of tradition.

I used the taxi driver/bale of hay one among others. I asked them why they thought that law was in place, and once I reminded them that in the days before cars, taxis were horse-drawn carriages, it clicked.

Ummmmmm.............. If a person attempted to commit suicide, and the person is sentenced to a hanging, wouldn't they be getting what they tried to do in the first place???
