Can anyone 'splain Fifty Shades of Gray to me?

Postby raisindot » Fri Mar 30, 2012 4:29 pm

I'm counting on your Brits to let me know what this thing is all about.

I've heard it called everything from 'subpar Twilight fanfic' to 'Mommy porn.' Yet, apparently, it's about to become the next Harry Potter of the book group set and film studios are falling over each other to film it.

Would anyone here admit to reading it, or at least have a backstory?

I've never heard of it either. Looked it up on Barnes & Noble, but it doesn't say a whole lot about it. And, "mommy porn"? I hate stupid phrases like that.

Story started out as a Twilight fanfiction (M-rated), gained a number of followers and then the author went, changed the names, added some very small new scenes and published it. The people that read the fanfiction bought the book. and a lot of regular twilight fans did too

Teen romance? That definitely doesn't make it sound appealing to me.

Is that the difference between grey and gray?! I've always wondered!

Correct. It is, of course, "grey," not "gray".

This is the article from our local newspaper on thing, which is the first time I had heard of it. Made it sound like this thing was going to be bigger than the Bible.

It;s supposed to be lightweight BDSM aimed at women readers. Doesn't appeal to me but then again I'm not part of the target audience
One of those? Oh I'm sure I have one somewhere..

For once I'm all with you, h8.
And it's not only teenage romance twilight fanfiction. it's M-Rated (NC-17) teenage romance twilight fanfiction with some badly written BondageSadomaso.

Oh. My. God.

Can't we arrange for an 'accident' at the distribution warehouse? A 100 megaton H-bomb should do it.
