Well, to say it was hyped is to *slightly* understate it.

I (literally) just watched it, and I've got completely Mixed Feelings about it. Lots of bits were changed, some were added and some ignored, but overall it Was a good movie. Just, it was missing some of my favourite bits.

The only other thing I have against it is that there was no sense of time (but I got this with HP 7 p2). So overall it was a good Adaptation of the film, but I tend to get annoyed over finicky points (as I tend to adore books and read them too often before I see the movie).

They're not very thin they have about 400+ pages for each book.

Maybe it's just the hungarian edition...or maybe he consideres 400+ as thin

Nobody ever listens to me: "See the movie first!!" ..unless you read the book years ago; then you don't have much choice. But I hear people all the time whining (present co. excluded) about how the movie is different, or missing stuff; blah blah..
It looks interesting to me, so I might see it.

I heard that the basic premise is that 13 year olds must partake in these games in order for their village/tribe to eat?

Con I never whine about how a movie is different from a book. I view them as two separate entities. And they are. Different mediums and both have different constraints and advantages.

I haven't read the books. My daughter Perry (14), who's been a fan of the books for awhile very kindly invited her old mum to come along with her & her mates to see it at the movies. I enjoyed it but I cried quite a bit. Even though it wasn't gratuitous it's a very disturbing concept. Child soldiers are a hot topic at the moment & rightly so. Perry talked to me more about the book, about the politics, there being 2 sides to the story, different things like that which I was mightily impressed with because it shows that she really thought about what it was she was reading.

Like other people I did think of the Stephen king story The Long Walk. A-mazing story if you've never read.

I haven't read the books either. The movie itself was quite enjoyable, and although some of the concepts were a bit long in the tooth, the way they were explored was new, and the characterisation and acting was pretty good. When you can pretty much gauge what a character is thinking based purely on the actor's facial expression, then that's GOOD ACTING (and direction) No stupid voiceovers or literal dialogue needed. It worked really well. And wow, the costume design of the people in the Capitol.... it should win an award for that. (Even if it it's "costumes most likely to cause a brainmelt")

Saw it today and loved it. Really want to read the books now. Definately a contender for Best Costumes at the Oscars.

Hm... chose not to see it yesterday. Might've been the summary I read on the cinema's website. Didn't really sound that interesting to me.
The main point that put me off was that it is, from what I read, a love story actually. I don't hate love stories per se, I just hate them getting in the way of other plots. But it happens in nearly every film. It's annoying.
