I thought I wouldn't like Matt Smith, but I think he's doing a great job! Really entertaining to watch. Can't think of any Doctors that qualify as "eye candy" though.

I think you may need to hide when Del reads that dismissal of Mr Tennant!

Below is all just my opinion. Read at your own risk

I so disagree with the decline after Moffat took over! The show got much more enjoyable to me after Matt Smith came in. I was glad to see manic/mopey Tennant go, along with his awful sidekicks (Catherine Tate excepted). Season five was the most mature to me, it always felt a bit too much like a kids' show before that. There's still stuff I don't/didn't like in season five and six but not as groanworthy as loads of stuff in two-four.
I have to admit I've only seen the episodes once and can't call out any specific examples, it's more a general feeling. Rose didn't do anything for me, bad acting didn't help either - although Mickey was even worse. Then we got Martha Jones, who's only job was to want the Doctor to fall in love with her, while he was still pining for Rose. Donna at least had some character, even if it was a tad annoying at the start, and she had a real character arc.

Lastly, I think Smith's the better actor, or at least has better range. Tennant could do angry and sad, but Smith can do wonder, glee and looks like he's enjoying himself much more.

Well I like Matt Smith. I like the way he manages to seem like a really young man who is incredibly old. And I like the way they have moved away from the eye candy type of guy from the last few incarnations. Doctor Who was never about that and having everyone fall madly in love with the last guy was just silly.

Oh come ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We girls have had to sit through 156 different old wrinkly scruffy dodgy doctors with thier ASSISTANTS running around in miniskirts that barely covered their belly buttons let alone thier arse while you blokes oggled them (and dont deny it; there are enough posts about "Cooooooooor remember.....")

We get ONE ONE dishy one FINALLY and its "Oh he's too pretty!"

Willem, I have to agree with you. I would rather eat glass than watch another episode with Rose and Mickey. Loved Donna! I thought she was funny. While I really enjoyed David Tennant (see Del!), Matt Smith has been great too, and definitely does those child-like moments of glee well. There have been a few episodes I haven't been crazy about, but most of them are really entertaining, so I don't get the criticism of Moffat either.

You know I adore Dr Who..... no such thing as a BAD episode when they seem so bare on the ground these days (new episodes at any rate). I am fine with Matt Smith. Buts he isnt eye candy. Peter Davison is okay too but he's not DT. *sigh* And for your information Willem... David had way more range that "angry" and "sad".... he does "sexy", and he does "smoldering", and he does "come over here and lick the screen you know you want to"............. ummmm where were we?

I think Q gave a very concise answer to the Dr Who writing thing somewhere before. They all have good eps. Some are good some arent SO good but hey its still Dr Who. And yes I do prefer it when the story unravels over a series and its up to you to find the clues. We just rewatched the series about The Master and the drums, etc on TV and it was great to check out the background for clues again.

Two nights ago "The library" ep was on... the one where the Dr meets Riversong for the "first time". Wonderful seeing in retrospect and looking "forward" to looking back over the next series.

Loved Donna too.

I agree. I really didn't like Donna. Martha was my favourite.

Edit: Donna and Rory have been the best assistants yet since it was restarted,why? Because they showed no smoochy love for the Doctor AND they challenged his dark side more than once. Also, way more entertaining. I wasn't a massive Catherine Tate fan before but her character Donna was brilliant.

I'm with Spidey on Catherine Tate.

Was horrified when I heard she'd been cast as a permanent companion, only to be proved greatly wrong by her performance.

I can't stand her "comedy" either, but her portrayal of Donna was brilliant.

I agree, it was because she didn't go all mopey eyed over the Doctor that made her a much better companion, in my opinion, than Martha.

Poor Freema, the stuff they gave her didn't give her a chance really.
