Thank you. The comps are ongoing with three Digital Projected Image merit competitions and four Print merit comps in a season. We've had all three projected this year and after I unofficially totalled everyone's score in my category (Intermediate), I think I'm either joint first or runner up depending on whether they resort to a tie-breaker or not. I'll have to wait for the official result at the end of the season to find out but, either way, I don't think it's too bad for my first time. We have one more Print Merit Comp left but we are so far behind the leader it's a foregone conclusion with about four of us scrapping for the runner-up spot, of which I am bringing up the rear and adrift by two points.

This Panel Comp was one of the open competitions where there are no Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced Categories, just the photos (normally won by the more experienced photographers, some of whom are professionals). I think there are a few more open comps coming up, but I am not sure about the format for these.

Congratulations on the win Penfold - that's brilliant news

But I feel a little dissapointed that 'The Unnoticed Pier' didn't do so well...there is something about that picture that seems 'just right' and beautifully balanced to me.

Of course I adore the dragonfly too - it's stunning. I do hope you do more macros in the coming weeks

Thank you all for the comments, I'm still chuffed by the result even after two weeks. However, there was another merit competition tonight (the last one, this season, for merit points) which I have just got back from and I am pleased to report;

PENFOLD STRIKES AGAIN!!!!

Yep, I won best in the Intermediate Category and best overall on the night!

"Pink" scored 17/20.


"Pier at Dawn" scored 18/20.


"The Boat" scored 20/20 and was the winner.

I am still surprised at how well this has done (it was part of the panel comp) since the style is generally not liked by judges (and it's not my personal favourite out of the panel either).

I know I haven't scored consistently high enough to win the print merit competition, overall, for the season but I am definitely in contention for one of the runner-up spots. I will know more when the full scores are published but either way I don't think it too shabby for a first season.
