Help! I need a name!

Postby Cheery » Wed Aug 05, 2009 5:33 pm

I've been writing at my story a lot lately and I'm desperate for a good name for one of the main characters. I've searched on the internet and looked through whole lists, but I haven't found a good name yet.

The character's a tall, strong man with broad shoulders and looks very much like a hunter (he calls himself a dog catcher, but he doesn't actually catch dogs as such). He's got a very short beard and is, not unlike Vimes , in his heart a good person, but can be a little harsh on the outside (but a LOT less than Vimes). He's a good fighter, but a crossbow would be his weapon of choice. He doesn't like to talk about his work or his past, because it makes him feel all nervous. He travelles around alongside Aurora (or rather she travelles alongside him), since they fought off the werewolves together.

Please help me with this one, I really need it!

Well... It's a little too silly for him. He needs a more serious name.

Call him Mr Dotsie. He's the manliest man I know. He's been hanging pictures and playing Guitar Hero all day (very manly  ).
What's up with this glass? Excuse me? Excuse me? This is my glass? I don't think so. My glass was full! And it was a bigger glass!

Gus.

He has been around and learned to think things through --St Augustine.
He's smart and can order people around --the Emperor Augustus.

Gus is my favorite character in Lonesome Dove.
Gus is also my very good friend.

Good name. Strong. Hard to misspell. Lots of allusions.

Well, I've been looking at your names and on the internet and that's the list of names i'm happy with so far:

Rorik
Clint
Richard
Cliff/ Clifford
Craig
Sean
Vincent
Lee/ Leeroy
Marcus
Greg
Murray
Trevor
Henry

EDIT:
Brent/Brenton

Which one do you think fits best?
And If you have more names you think would fit even better, please post them! The more the better! I'd also be very happy if you have ideas for surnames

And maybe it'll be easier with a picture:

He looks like a Greg to me. There are quite a few of those names that I can't see fitting him at all. :D
