ooooh! Incidentally, I am gathering a collection of quotes from the books as I read them. They can be found on my Tumblr (link is in my signature) along with the odd review and some other non-Discworld related stuff.

:) Thanks, yes I'll be getting it at some point, but for now I'm really enjoying picking out passages I enjoy myself as I go and posting them on Tumblr to see how much other people enjoy them too. Buying the books is still a work in progress, I don't have all the novels yet, but once I do and once I've read them all, I'll be getting The Wit and Wisdom of Discworld, The Folklore of Discworld etc. Looking forward to it too :)

For the curious, this is the most popular bit of Discworld writings that I've quoted and posted so far:

She glared at herself in the mirror.
She’d have to stop thinking like this. She seemed to have spent her whole life trying to make herself small, trying to be polite, apologizing when people walked over her, trying to be good-mannered. And what had happened? People had treated her as if she was small and polite and good-mannered.

But what did you think of the books you've read so far?

Hat Full of Sky is the book for discussion next month. ;)

I am completely in love with the witches series. I never thought anything would be able to compete with how much I enjoyed reading about the watch, but wow. Witches Abroad, Lords and Ladies and Carpe Jugulum are my favourite of them so far. I really like the setting of Lancre too. There's a definite atmosphere about the place and the inhabitants who play most of the minor characters are pure gold! (Jason and Shawn Ogg, Hodgesaargh etc).

The only thing I wish was a little different (like I said in the Another Witches Book thread) is for more focus to be put on Nanny. There's been plenty of time (and books) to do it. I know she's rather an important character already and she does get plenty of 'screentime', but she hasn't had the limelight to herself yet like the other witches have. She's a great constant for the witches, always there to hold the others together and be a comforting support to them, but we’ve been able to see Granny, Magrat and Agnes struggle with themselves and whatever problem/villain is being thrown at them this time while Nanny doesn't really seem to get the same treatment. We see the other three at their best and worst and how they get through it and change themselves and things around them while Nanny just sort of props them all up.

I’d like to see Nanny struggle with herself, really struggle like the others have. Not just get worried because Granny has disappeared and she's not sure what to do, but for something to happen that makes her a bit more than the comforting 'mother' character who's always there to enjoy a drink or two and make us laugh with that amazing filthy mind of hers.

You might have guessed, but Nanny Ogg is my favourite witch :P

You have to do a lot of reading between the lines to see how important Nanny is. She's not only Granny's best friend, she's also Granny's guardian angel (for want of a better phrase). She's like Watson to Granny's Holmes and makes sure that Granny doesn't get carried away.

I used to dislike Nanny a lot, but the more I read about what she does in the background, the more I see what a vital character she is. She allows Granny to be great, because she is watching over her shoulder. ;)

Oh I understand how important she is. That's exactly why I wonder soemtimes why she hasn't been at the centre of any of the witch books yet. Even just once, you know. I think it'd be good to read a witches novel where the guardian angel is in need of being watched over for once, but that's just me ;) .
