Forum Writer of 2012 Competition

As I am sure you are all aware (ie; I'm sure you are all NOT aware), in 1988 a lovely little book was published called "The Drabble Project". Only 1,000 books were published, each having its own number and all proceeds from the book went to charity. 100 writers each wrote a 100-word story. As well as there being a story from Asimov, Terry Pratchett also contributed. If you see the link at the bottom, you can read Terry's contribution (titled "Incubust"), other examples, and the rules. 8-)

Two further books were published, the last one being dedicated to Doctor Who and written by a whole bunch of Doctor Who actors, scriptwriters etc etc. But I'm sure all true Doctor Who fans already have a copy.

So here's the challenge.

Write a 100-word story then pm it to me. Your story can be about absolutely anything you like eg; Discworld, or a poem, or politics, or goats, or even a story containing only words that begin with a vowel. :ugeek:

"One hundred words must be EXACTLY one hundred words: not a syllable more, not a letter less. In addition, up to fifteen words (title, sub-titles and the like) are allowed. Hyphenated-words-are-argued-about." 8-)

I'll post the sories as, and when I receive them (no names included), then on Valentine's Day I'll post all the stories together on a seperate thread (no names included) and everyone can vote on which they think is the best story.
The winner will be crowned Forum Writer of 2012 and will receive an amazing prize (definitely) and a 5-book publishing contract from Transworld (maybe).

Only the writers of the top three voted stories will be identified.

You can send me as many stories as you like. 8-)

If this challenge is good enough for the likes of Terry Pratchett, Isaac Asimov and two Doctor Whos, how can anybody resist?

If any of you "wannabe-writers" don't make an entry, I'm sure everyone will understand completely.  I'm sure that nobody will think that you are in any way deluding yourself that you can write, and I'm certain that nobody will think that just because a simple task like this is w-a-a-a-a-a-y beyond your own writing capability, that you are not in anyway as good a "writer" as you undoubtedly believe yourself to be.

Pencils at the ready, get set, go! 8-)
(PS: I'm not officially back and will confine my talking of the toot to this thread only. :ugeek: )

Good idea poohcarrot. I'll have a bit of that :text-bravo:

Image What happens if there are only 3 entries - or less than 3 entries?
Any truly awful entry would then no longer remain anonymous and the writer identified to face humiliation and shame! Image

He goes away from months at a time, and then he comes back just to ask us all to jump through hoops for him. Again.

Typical. :D :D :D

While J-I*b is getting all sentimental and mushy (bless!), here's one that took me 30 minutes in Starbucks to knock out. 8-)

It's better than some in the book, but worse than most.

1 THE NEWLYWEDS' HANG UP

"Don't worry if you've never done it before darling, I mean, it can't be THAT difficult, can it?
Right, you start and I'll give you directions.
OK......well it certainly doesn't go there now, does it?
That's a bit better....down a bit....and a bit more....now right a little. You're doing well, you're almost there. No, no no! Don't rush it! Down a little....now left a bit....oh yes! That's it! Just there! Oh God, that's perfect! Quickly, don't lose the spot. Now hammer it home! Yes, Yes, YES!!

Now you've hung the picture, fancy a shag?"

I could use a break from my current project, I think I've got something that'll work quite nicely. Cheers Pooh.

Dunno if I've said Hi to you Stripy. If not, then "Hi".
If I have, then just ignore me like everyone else used to do. :(
