Favourite Discworld Names?

Postby Penfold » Wed Dec 07, 2011 2:46 am

Just simply what it says in the title. Sir Terry had used plenty of names for places, people, and objects and I was wondering if any of them has stood out, or had any significance, for you?

My particular favourite is "You Bastard" which neatly encapsulated my opinion and experience of nearly all camels that I have encountered.

Bestiality Carter.

I loved the whole idea behind the naming.

Hodgesaargh is probably my very favourite name but it's a tough call.

Legitimate First is a stand out for me as well.

Bestiality Carter is a favourite. I also like the way the other Morris dancer's names are Baker the Weaver, Weaver the Thatcher, Thatcher the Carter but Tinker is a Tinker. So good.

I did a quiz on it elsewhere. :D

Answers:

Spoiler: show

Butler - Mr. Spriggins
Tinker - Tinker
Thatcher - Weaver
Tailor - Carpenter
Hunter - William Scrope
Carter - Thatcher
Beekeeper - Mr. Brooks
Maid - Millie Chillum
Storekeeper - Mr. Quarney
Cook - Mrs. Scorbic
Falconer - Hodgesaargh
Weaver - Baker
Weaver - Tailor (the other weaver)

this is one of my faves too, especially because it starts with something that people do: theme name their children, and then terry takes it that one (or two) steps further.

I liked Legitimate First, and ones like Bestiality and Chlamidia. Or Note Spelling. The Omnians have good names too.

I love the fact that Death has a horse called Binky and a grand daughter named Susan.
