RIP George Baker

Postby Quatermass » Sun Oct 09, 2011 10:39 pm

One of my favourite character actors has perished. Some of you may know him as Inspector Wexford. I knew him as Sir Hilary Bray in On Her Majesty's Secret Service (even overdubbing George Lazenby for a good chunk of the film), the Chief Beefeater from the very first episode of The Goodies, and concerned father and community leader Decider Login from the Doctor Who story, Full Circle.

RIP, George Baker.

Oh bugger. Another good one gone.

Baker will always be etched in my memory for his performance as the thoroughly slimy and despicable mama's boy Tiberius in I, Claudius.

He was also the thoroughly extraordinary Uncle Tiberius in I Clau-Clau-Claudius - sorry Jeff in the real world he was right up there as a general...

He was also one of the better "Number 2's" on The Prisoner.

Wasn't on for that long. Wasn't he the second Number 2 in the very first episode?
