90% of the things in supermarkets you'll know what they are.
The 10% you don't know will all be horrible, so don't buy them.

And in Japan they've developed this system where they put a price on each thing you buy, so you can see how much you're spending.

If you're a laid-back person, you'll have no problems. The job itself is basically being a pet gaijin tape recorder for 4-5 lessons a day - max. The rest of your time you sit at the desk doing whatever you want.
Evenings and weekends free.

Which qualifications are needed?

To work in a JHS or Elem school you need to have a degree.
That's it.
No teaching experience needed.
In fact some guy I know bought a degree certificate off the internet and used that even though it was clearly false.

If some of you remember the guy who posted here with the Japanese girlfriend, then I met them at the DW Con last year, then he sent me pms about getting a job in Japan. I would have done but since the March 11 quake I've heard nothing.

They're crying out for gaijin assistant teachers, because this year they've just started teaching English in Elementary schools. They already taught it in JHS and HS and English is part of the entrance exam for university.
