I am calm. I'll be able to be confident in the interview, just not about my chances of actually getting the job.

Still, it's the fourth job interview that I've had this year, a personal record, so I must be doing something right. Hopefully, I can get a few more before the year is out. Or even better, an actual job. I'm sick of being on the dole. Makes me feel like my education was squandered, you know?

Anyway, to 'chew the scenery' is a term describing acting that is either all out, or else over the top. This is perhaps one of the most infamous examples from cinematic history. "KHAAAAAAAAN! KHAAAAAAAAN!"

Because just the other day you said you were an antisocial misanthrope and other such things.
Then there might be the problem of too literal a translation. In German you can say "Don't eat me!" when the opposite is angry or rude towards you. For some reason I can imagine you to get upset when interviewers start to ask stupid questions or similar things. Hene the "Don't eat the interviewer."

Didn't know about chewing the scenery, which added to my confusion.

Ah, a bit of cultural confusion on both sides, then. We use the term "Don't bite my head off!" instead of "Don't eat me!".

Yeah, we have that, too. Only it's "Don't rip my head off" in German.
(Well, actually it's "Reiß mir nicht den Kopf ab!")
