I have a friend in the US who tried to loan me one of her kindle books but it never came through. I think it's something to do with being in different countries and publishers not having rights in those countries or something. So loans between kindle accounts in the same country (or at least the US) should be ok but I'm not sure about loans between kindles from different countries - might be a bit hit and miss.
