Actually, I should have put a H at the end. I wanted to stress the AH sound rather than an AY. Don't know what I was thinking putting an R.

I always associate this name with "anguish" and you do pronounce that an-gwish, no (I'm not sure since I'm not a native speaker)?
Never was too sure about Astfgl myself.

It's An-gwa for me as well. I tend to work on the basis that Stephen Briggs pronunciations are probably correct as Terry would probably correct him pretty quickly if it wasn't how he intended it.
