I don't agree with either assessment. I don't think it's Pterry's best YA book (I still think that Wee Free Men is a far deeper and better book), nor anywhere close to his best adult work. But it is a very fine book in its own right and it's great that he won the Nebula, which tends to gravitate more toward SF than fantasy books.
