One of the delights of senior citizenship is that pottiness is not just accepted it is an obligation :) . Doubly so for fans of the Discworld Maestro. :D
I think the answer lies in the soil, ooo arrr!

How more normal can you get than UB40? Didn't they once have a number one in the charts? I bet Super Furry Animals would never sell out like that! 8)

UB40 were great until they turned into a bloody karaoke band - first two albums full of politics and dubbiness - luvly.

I do have a very guilty pleasure - Level 42, but only the early albums

Didn't the early late seventies/early eighties finish almost 30 years ago?

If you want politics or wall paper music from that era why not choose SLF and the Human League??

Cos I was a wee bit young for SLF, but I do like Human League's first two albums, especially the 'instrumental' version of Dare.

The first two Human League albums were Reproduction and Travelogue. Then they split up to form Heaven 17 and the "Human League" with the two women. Dare was their "3rd" album.

The first two albums are well worth listening to (before they went all Karaoke a la UB40)

First three albums, then

Also liked Heaven 17's first album, but I have a soft spot for electronica, along with funk.

I would love to discuss the merits of 1980s new romanticism v jazz funk more with you, but as it's 3am and I'm pissed out of my head, I might say something more silly than normal, so I won't.8)

Sayonara!

'More silly than normal'??? - That'd take some doing!
Pooh - I aspire to be as daft as I possibly can - without getting myself carted off - and I can appreciate daftness when I see it!

The instrumental Dare was the 4th album and just a collection of their extended 12" mixes.

You're not a member of the Spanish Inquisition, are you?

(PS UB40 were formed in 1978. SLF's first album came out in 1978)

But SLF weren't on TOTP as much - I were only a youngling

And the first 'scene' I got into was the 79/80 ska revival, so we also listened to reggae, skanking away in each others bedrooms...

There must be a better way of putting that :?

Aha! So you were a bedroom skanker, were you?
I'll keep your skanking a secret because who doesn't like a nice skank now and then?

Anyhoos, you've got The Fall (Totally wired) on today's list so obviously your Level 42 aberration can be overlooked just this once. Level 42 came to the Poly I was at in the early 80s and they have got to be the most boring banal bland band I've ever had the displeasure to witness.
