Brisbane Broken Drummers?

Postby pandasthumb » Sun Apr 10, 2011 12:23 pm

Hello! Am just this moment back to Brisbane from the Australian Discworld Convention (Nulllus Anxientas III) and I have to say it was all terribly exciting. :D We even got to hear a fair bit of Snuff. And my husband won't stop singing the Hedehog Song. But now I am motivated by several reasons to see if we can't start our own Broken Drummers here in Brisbane. So what say you Brisbane folk? Shouldn't we get together? :?:

If other people are out there who are in a Broken Drummers or similair DW based social groupings and have useful advice I would be interested to hear from you too.

Feel free to im me.

Hey pandasthumb! Great to see you agaian and so glad you enjoyed the convention! :D

I don't know if you subscribe to Jason's Discworld Monthly online magazine. That'd be a great place to look for people in Brisbane for a Drummers Meet Up.

Good luck! Let us know how you get on. :D

Ohhhhhhhhhhh and try Brisbane Arts Theatre... they have a massive DW following.... they do a DW play every year thats always sold out (among their other productions). Either the players or the audience.... the people who run it are lovely and they might link it to thier site. And we could link iton our facebook. (My daughters too.... she has ALOT of performers who are friends).

If I remember correctly, the pub in The Colour of Magic was The Broken Drum. This is an old play on words - the broken drum, you can't beat it.

The pub was burned down in COM in A-M's first insurance fraud and, in true Discworld logic, the replacement to the Broken Drum was The Mended Drum. The pun fails to work then because clearly a mended drum CAN be beaten.

Twoflowers first venture into the insurance game in Ank-Morpork. :)

That's the problem with Twoflower, too naive in general to even consider the possibility of something like inn-sewer-ants fraud. He didn't have a chance against someone who thought he could get so much for so little... :)

No, I don't think that we should make musical ability a requirement, or then again ...
Dancing should be optional, as long as it doesn't frighten the horses :D

You don't need musical ability to sing the Duncan song. Just plenty of beer.

Panda - keep us updated on this - and meerkat on your one as well. :D
