I'm currently reading a series of books about vampires/werewolves, etc which is actually classed as romance!!

Turn the page and all of a sudden it's practically porn.

Actually, when you've read seven books in the series, back-to-back, you realise that, in fact, the whole lot are just repeats of the first book, with the names changed, and a slight change in storyline.

I'm actually quite fond of some of the characters. I tend to skip over the rude bits.

But you can't know if they're rude until you read them, can you?

Years ago (when I still had my library) a neighbour visited and said :Ohhhhhhh! You like books! I have some I can pass on to you if you like books" And she gave me about 50 Mills and Boon

I read about ten of them yes. Then my brain EXPLODED!!!!!!!!!

Actually I ended up at the library researching the whole Mills and Boon genre. There is a VERY set formula.... Boy meets girl, girl hates boy... and there is actually a page NUMBER for the scenarios of what happens. It works for them and they stick to it religiously.

There is a VERY good living to be made from it. A few Aussie authors do it as Aussie themed books. Its not for me. Don't regret my time reading them.... it was was doing colouring in to relax. And i don't have a problem with anyone reading them either.... reading is good in whatever form. As long as someone is relaxing and off with the fairies.... isn't that waht all fiction is about? Reading doesn't all have to be serious or teach lessons.

After all... bodice busters have been around for sooooooooo long.... take Pride & Prejudice.

My ex used to read Mills and Boons. I tried (without success) to get her to read something else. I even agreed to read one of her books if she read one of mine. I kept my part of the bargain - the book was garbage. She never did bother to read the book that I gave her.

The only thing I can say about them is that they are so formulaic that they are simply a way to escape without having to think.
