NCIS - Astonishing Ratings

Postby Bouncy Castle » Wed Feb 02, 2011 7:56 pm

For the love of Mark Harmon, would you look at those ratings for NCIS!

The veteran CBS drama posted a series record in viewers on Tuesday – a whopping 22.7 million – and also earned its best adult 18-49 rating (4.6/12) since October of 2009, according to preliminary ratings. As a result, CBS slaughtered the competition in viewers (17.5 million) and 18-49 (3.5/9) for the night. Each 18-49 ratings point equals 1.3 million viewers.

Then again, CBS didn’t have a helluva lot of competition in the 8 p.m. time slot. Fox aired a repeat of Glee and ABC went with an oldie of No Ordinary Family, so Harmon and Co. only had to do battle with The Biggest Loser, which also posted a tidy gain over the previous week by earning a 3.3/8 — up 3% — and 9.1 million.

The rest of CBS’s schedule rocked, too. NCIS: LA earned a 3.8/9 — up 15% — and 17.7 million, while The Good Wife grabbed a 2.2/6 – up 5% — and 12.1 million.

NBC came in second for the night with a 2.9/8 and 8.1 million, with Parenthood averaging a 2.2/6 and 6.1 million viewers. Fox was third in the demo (1.7/4) and viewers (5.0 million) for the night while ABC finished fourth (1.3/3, 4.9 million).

The CW, meanwhile, enjoyed its most-watched Tuesday (2.1 million) in more than a year and hit season highs in demos like adults 18-34 and women 18-34 with originals of One Tree Hill (2.4 million viewers) and Hellcats (1.9 million).

The day, which started great for NCIS, just got even better. Hours after the veteran CBS drama set a new series record in total viewers, 22.9 million, its star Mark Harmon signed a new two-year deal to continue on the hit show.

And with him on board, NCIS has been renewed for a ninth season, the first CBS drama to get a pickup for next fall. "It’s simply amazing that a show in its eighth season continues to perform at such an elite level," CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler said.

You're missing a treat.

It's a procedural, but it has a great deal of humour in it.

I hate Mark Harmon, and have always hated him since he started his smug career on St. Elsewhere.

But you can't deny the popularity of his show. It's amazingly popular with kids. Both my teenage sons watch it religiously.

As for the Tuesday ratings (I'm assuming these are U.S. ratings) if they're based on the Tuesday that just passed, keep in mind that nearly half of the U.S. was being pummelled with blizzard conditions, keeping many people indoors. And, since almost no one in America had school on Wednesday, the kids who might have gone to bed when NCIS and other shows are on stayed up for them, which raised the ratings for most shows. And, if your choice is to watch a rerun or something new, you'll probably go for the new show every time.

It'll be interesting to see how next Tuesday's ratings compare.

 Hate for Mark Harmon?

Excuse me please while I go and lie down for a bit in a darkened room.

I suspect the weather will have had a lot to do with it, but if those millions of people enjoyed it, they may just stick with it.

Yes he is.

One of the strongest "showbiz" marriages, by all accounts.

You never see any bad publicity about him or his family.

Charlie Sheen take note! :D
