Discworld on civ 4

Postby Birthday » Wed Feb 02, 2011 9:22 pm

As Civ 4 is one of the most moddable games around, I am starting to learn to mod for it and the nations of the Discworld have quite well developed political stances and personalities (Uberwald being quite violent and secretive, Klatch being Scientific and violent Ankh-Morpork being somewhat against violence etc.) I thought a discworld mod on civ 4 would work quite well, the discworld is well mapped and so, privately, I have created a map for it, as I fear it may otherwise breech copyright law. So if I keep working on it for a while I could finish this mod and make it quite good. Please post your ideas. :D

It would be fun but as Finomans said this game eats time. Setting up new advances that would be appropriate would be a laugh. What wonders had you got in mind?
One of those? Oh I'm sure I have one somewhere..

Can't we have an "I don't know" choice? :?

I don't really no about wonders, maybe the patricians palace? But I thought you could mod guilds and use that effectively, also adding technologies like the clacks system and the printing press etc. Also new resources like thaumic energy and swamp dragons would be interesting, possibly leading to new units like dragon riders. The other obvious additions would be the units of trolls (with sub-types), dwarfs (with sub-types), werewolves, wizards, witches, nac mac feegle and vampires would be a fun addition. As I said before the guilds could allow special units like assasins for the assasins guild and raising hapiness in cities with the jokers guild (or whatever it's called), even the thieves guild could have uses in raising money produced in a city.
Sorry if I don't know that much about some of the technologies but I'm reading DW in order and have only got to 25.

It's always a good idea to get Terry's permission as it makes all the difference if there are any problems in the future. Better to get permission than to later be told to get rid of it. :)

Thanks, but I'll have to maker it first, so nobody hold there breath, it could be a long long time before I finish it. Also does anybody here do any 3d modelling in blender, as I am not very good at it and will need some new models to create some of the units.

As its a fan based mod, you wouldn't really need permission as you are not selling it. But its always a good idea to check anyway.
Terry is a gamer but I'm not sure if he's ever played Civ.

I know he's played Morrowind/Oblivion and that is very mod-able and I've toyed with the idea of creating the Discworld there but it would be a hell of lot of work that I don't have time for
