Ok.. here goes... You're in a room with three light swiches. One of them controlls the light in the neighbouring room, the other two are just fakes. You can't see into the other room and are only allowed to check once. You can flick the switches as many times as you like. How do you do it?

Sorry, but what are you supposed to do? Turn the light on next door, or find out which switch it is?

If you just want to turn the light on, you flick each switch once then check. If it's off, flick each switch once more.

If you need to know which switch though, I have no idea :?

sorry. You're supposed t work out how you worked out which swich controlls the light. Didn't explain it too well. Sorry :oops:

I know that one!

you flick (nice word, didn't know it) a switch then wait a little and flick it again and flick a second switch. Then you go in the room and if the light is on it is the second switch, else you touch the bulb if it's hot it is the first switch otherwise it is the third!

if you like riddles I would recommend you books by Raymond Smullyan, they are really well done, with really easy ones to begin and extremely hard ones to end with.

Oh darn! That completely threw my theori on very quickly evolving x-ray vision and looking through the door to see if the lights were on :D
