(Grimsby always stood out to me when the guy was reading was reading the pools scores - an unfortunate name for a town.

Looking it up, 'by' is old norse for village, and it was supposedly founded by a Viking named 'Grim'. On the other hand, 'Grim' or 'Grimnir' are also aliases for Odin, so this may not be true. Either way, Grimsby means 'Grim's village'.)

Never been there myself, although do I know someone who was born there. Grim means 'masked' and Grimnir is 'masked one': perhaps a modern translation would be 'village of the hoodies'. I wonder if it lives up to that name....
