Aliss stood in front of her fire, cackling softly. They would come for her soon, she knew, but it had been worth it. The stories had been good ones… the Queen obsessed with a mad monk who wouldn’t die… the beautiful young woman possessed by an evil witch… the pictsies who came in the night to steal biscuits….

But now it was time to go. Her broomstick was already hovering by the door, and her few meagre possessions had been packed. A spell had already been launched at the village, in order to end the stories she had been running. Within minutes the mad monk would be turned into a biscuit and then his fate would then be sealed. As she turned to leave however, the sight of two children, their golden heads bobbing as they ran down the path towards her gingerbread cottage, made Aliss cackle more loudly. There was always time for one last act of evil. She lit her oven with the blink of an eye, and reached out for the kitchen drawer where the baster was kept……
