Mahatma Gandhi wrote:The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.

And the respect and empathy we have for our fellow human beings can be judged by the way we treat animals. I cannot image how someone could do that. To think people like that are able to have children. :(

I have always maintained that if people mis-treat animals what would they do to a fellow human being?

It's disgusting! They should bring back the stocks. There's plenty of over ripe fruit and veg after a market!

Well I'm glad at least the killer had the decency to kill them quickly (shot in the head). I once confronted a little s**t that was letting his dog torment a live blackbird after he'd shot it. He was carrying his rifle in public and he threatened me with it. The police response was impressive (helicopters and all), I don't know what happened to him after that

I'm OK with killing animals for food, after all the majority of us eat meat (how many of us have killed an animal first I wonder?). Killing for pure cruel pleasure is entirely different however, this is something that I abhor.

I do hope they do catch the guy responsible though, and that he gets a proportionate punishment (a hefty fine or a few years in the slammer)

last comment is that anyone who has ever visited China on a regular basis.. you would get an entirely new perspective on animal welfare, economics and poverty. This incident would pale in comparison..
No animals were hurt in the making of this message, however billions of electrons (and some holes) were temporarily inconvenienced

I've seen some videos of the treatment of animals in China and they are not for the faint hearted. The fur trade there is particularly awful - cats and dogs are often skinned alive.

After what happened in Tucson in January, I hope they identify this madman/woman quickly. Pretty soon swans won't do it for that person. And swans are so beautiful! But they are deadly if you get close--so this is a cowardly crazy person.
