Okay, who here had seen it? I'm halfway through the series, and am enjoying it immensely, partly because of the lashings of black comedy throughout. Seriously, this version of Hyde is in the top ten of funny psychotic alter-egos, along with Yami Bakura and Yami Marik (aka 'Florence' and 'Melvin') from Yu-Gi-Oh! Abridged.

Yes, I saw it when it was first broadcast and remember really enjoying it. A shame it was only one series, but Steven Moffat is obviously a very busy man. It's probably due a re-watch some time soon.

Half of the damn thing can be considered a black comedy. I mean, Hyde makes you laugh as often as he scares you. Case in point:

Hyde: (dramatic flourish) Gentlemen! If any harm should come to Mrs Jackman I will kill all of you one by one! And I shall take my tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiime!

Barman: You were in here before, weren't you?
Hyde: Yeah!
Barman: Yeah... I'm surprised you can remember it.
Hyde: My liver applied for a transplant. This time, let's not give it the chance.

[Hyde walks in carrying a sack containing Browning's beaten remains]
Nurse: What's that?
Hyde: Entirely up to you of course, but I'd say... [He drops the sack, which groans] ...the front of the queue!

And of course, there's a bit with Jackman instead of Hyde...

[Jackman picks up a CD]
Tom: [Reading aloud] "The Lion King and other Disney Favourites".
Katherine: [Takes the cd] Oh, that's his, I should put it away...
Tom: He has Disney favourites?
Katherine: He likes the songs.
Tom: My dark side likes Mary Poppins, no wonder I was bullied at school.

BTW, I'm about to get myself a copy of Jekyll today. I'm pretty lucky, the DVD seems to have been sold out and deleted, so to get any copy is pretty lucky.

Loved Jekyll - must have watched it four or five times since it was first broadcast in 2007. To me this is the absolute pinnacle of Moffat's writing - it just works so very well on so many levels.

In a way I'm pleased that there wasn't a second series after seeing the utter mess that he has made of Dr Who in the past couple of years (his first series was mostly good or very good, but not so any more).

But Jekyll - just wonderful.

In a way I'm pleased that there wasn't a second series after seeing the utter mess that he has made of Dr Who in the past couple of years (his first series was mostly good or very good, but not so any more).

Actually, I thought his second series of Doctor Who was better than the first, although last year's series was a bit dud. Part of the problem is that he has to write what is effectively half the series in a short period of time. I'm guessing he had a lot of time to work on Jekyll, and back when Russell T Davies ran Doctor Who, Moffat only had to write a couple of episodes per season at most.

Of course, until I watched The Snowmen, I was convinced that Moffat could NOT do a superb Christmas special. I was glad to be proved wrong, and my faith is restored in what he has in store for this year's series. Plus, Neil Gaiman is writing another episode.

Anyway, back to Jekyll. I'm going to rewatch it before long, but I have other things on my mind. I'm listening to Doctor Who audio stories, amongst other things.

A very good price, but there are one or two bad reviews, especially about the DVDs, which seem to have duplicated episodes, and stuff.

Buying them is not necessary, if you happen to have a library membership and they have a copy. Thankfully, before I bought it, I watched the first three episodes from a copy I had borrowed from the library.
